Zika viral infection the emerging threat

Zika virus is a Flavivirus which belong to the  Flaviviridae  group .The other viruses in the same group are dengue, West Nile, yellow fever, and Japanese encephalitis. The viruses are transmitted to humans by mosquito bites and it produce a disease that lasts a few days to a week.
Common symptoms of the disease are  
Fever
Rash over the body
Joint pain
Conjunctivitis manifested as redness of the eyes.
Zika virual infection is usually a mild illness. The symptoms usually last from 2 to 7 days.
What are the complications of Zika viral infection?
This virus produce  birth defects  in newborn babies whose mothers became infected with Zika virus during their pregnancy. The most common birth defect associated is microcephaly that is small head and small brain size in babies
Zika virus is associated with Guillain-Barré syndrome.
